Established in 2002, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization is a not-for-profit mandated by the Government of Canada to design, implement, and oversee Canada’s nationwide plan for the safe, economical, and long-term management of nuclear products. In 2007, after much investigation and development, the Government of Canada selected Adaptive Phased Management (“APM”) as Canada’s plan for the management of the country’s used nuclear fuel.

To help guide the organization through the many legal and regulatory challenges it faces as it continues to fulfill its important mandate, the NWMO is looking for a General Counsel to join the team. The ideal candidate will have at least 15 years’ experience in corporate, energy (preferably nuclear), and regulatory law, and should have an extensive understanding of Canada’s nuclear industry; candidates with General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel experience will be preferred. Supporting the Board of Directors, and liaising with officials from industry and government alike, the successful candidate will be an individual of command, diplomacy, and integrity. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled practitioner to apply his or her expertise to an important and enduring public work.
