Our client, a busy personal injury firm is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accident Benefits Assistant/Clerk to join their team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the Accident Benefits Paralegal. This position requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.
The role of the Accident Benefits Assistant/Clerk consists of the following:
- Assist with preparation of various OCF forms for accident benefits and submitting them to the insurer, including submitting expenses (OCF-6) to the insurer on behalf of the client
- Contacting insurers when benefits are not paid or delayed
- Requesting productions from clients and third parties to satisfy documentary disclosure on LAT Appeals and s. 33 requests
- Drafting and preparing correspondence to insurance companies and clients
- Tracking denials and limitation dates to ensure clients’ rights are protected
- Scheduling Case Conferences, LAT motions, client calls and settlement calls in a timely manner
- Familiarity with drafting and submitting Case Conference Summaries, LAT Applications, Motions, Summons to a Witness and updating Witness Charts
- Liaison with treatment clinics
- Administrative tasks, including scanning, photocopying, coordinating with clients, file management
Qualifications
- Experience in Accident Benefits as an assistant/clerk, or in a similar role with at least 2 years’ experience
- Knowledge of accident benefits and the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule
- Knowledge of OCF forms
- Knowledge of LAT Rules and proceedings
- Basic knowledge of the tort and the Rules of Civil Procedure is beneficial
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Excellent multi-tasking, proof-reading and organizational abilities
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent work ethics and a strong attention to detail is a must
- Good people skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and/or within a team environment
- Experience in a personal injury firm is a plus
- Tort experience is a plus
- Familiarity with Primafact is advantageous
