Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Litigation Law Clerk with a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience to join their team. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or collaboratively. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients and colleagues are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently draft pleadings and file court documents through the portal.
- Prepare, revise, and proofread correspondence and legal documents.
- Schedule and coordinate examinations, issue notices of examinations, and draft client prep letters.
- Organize and review client documents, identify missing materials based on pleadings and client-provided information, and prepare Affidavits of Documents.
- Order transcripts, draft undertaking charts, and assist with providing answers to undertakings.
- Prepare mediation briefs, pre-trial briefs, and assist with trial preparation, including issuing summons and preparing joint books of documents.
Skills and Qualifications
- Completion of a post-secondary program in a relevant field (e.g., Legal Assistant, Law Clerk, Paralegal) with a minimum of 10+ years of experience in commercial litigation.
- Familiarity with the Rules of Civil Procedure and general court processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, GhostPractice, ACL.
- Familiarity with Dropbox, Adobe, Docusign, Zoom, CaseCenter and a willingness to learn new applications.
- Research experience with CanLii and/or Westlaw is an asset.
- Strong typing skills (75–80 WPM) and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proactive in identifying and addressing urgent issues.
- Willingness to work occasional overtime when required.
Compensation:
- Vacation: 3-4 weeks
- Probation: 6 months
- Benefits: after probation
- Hybrid: 3 days in office
Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000
