Our client, a boutique firm with 3 partners and 1 assistant (2 partners at Annex office and 1 partner and 1 assistant at another office)
The practice: tax, trusts and estates; mostly corporate, some litigation
Location: Annex, 3-minute walk from Spadina subway station
Experience Sought: 2-3 years as legal assistant
Corporate law experience they are looking for:
- Incorporated, organized and prepared and submitted filings for private corporations, including foundations – Ontario experience preferred – federal experience would be an asset
- Drafted corporate resolutions, especially annual resolutions, share certificates and incumbency certificates and maintained minute books, including registers and ledgers
- Experience with dissolutions and amalgamations would be an asset
- Experience with the new Ontario Business Registry would be an asset
Duties:
- Draft, edit and format correspondence
- Prepare, revise and format documents, including agreements, CRA forms, organizational charts, minute book documents, Trust Deeds, Wills and Powers of Attorney, various court documents
- Prepare for closings
- Interact with clients regularly, including some receptionist duties
- Schedule meetings
- Input time dockets; prepare draft bills and bills
- Open and close files
- Maintain filing systems
- Serve and file court documents
- Conduct corporate searches, file Articles and Form 1s and search for and make PPSA registrations
- Maintain minute books, including registers and ledgers
- Prepare cheque requisitions and expense reports
- Order office supplies
- Pay firm bills
- Personal assistance, e.g. making coffee, watering plants
Other:
- PCLaw or Soluno experience above and beyond docketing and billing would also be an asset
- We need someone with strong technology skills
- Full COVID-19 vaccination required; this is an in-office position
