Look no further – the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA), an Indigenous rights organization located in Iqaluit, Nunavut, is looking for a General Counsel to oversee their legal department. QIA represents 51 percent of the Inuit population residing in the Canadian Arctic territory and has a workforce exceeding 80 employees united by a common vision of protecting and advancing QIA interests and values.

This role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in implementing Nunavut’s new Devolution Agreement, involving the transfer of land and resources and the centralization of decision-making in the territory. The General Counsel will be instrumental in, amongst other things, fostering the growth of Nunavut’s gold and iron industry and contributing significantly to the region’s economic expansion.

The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 7 years’ general experience, ideally both in private practice and in-house, should have a passion for Indigenous issues, and must be willing to relocating to Iqaluit, Nunavut. Key attributes include expertise in regulatory/compliance, corporate governance, HR, federal/territorial statutes, commercial contracts, Indigenous law, and litigation.
