Our client, a leading industrial gas and engineering company, is looking to add a Paralegal/Law Clerk to their team.
Assist in-house counsel as they work with business divisions in negotiating contracts, sending communications, coordinating schedules with key individuals, maintaining paper and/or electronic records and other various aspects of supporting the corporation’s function.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintaining calendars and coordinating conference calls and recurring meetings
- Open and maintain organized paper and electronic files in accordance with Records Retention policies
- Work with counsel and the business to revise contracts being negotiated
- Review standard documents to see / note changes and review with counsel
- Prepare standard Non-Disclosure Agreements, Amending Agreements and other standard documents
- Guide finalized contracts through the signature process and maintain Official Document records
- Draft correspondence after consultation with counsel
- Communicate with external counsel to arrange for consultations on various matters
- Conduct legal research
- Assist with Law Department budget
- Track progress of litigation matters for reporting on status
- Stay up-to-date with continuing professional development programs of potential interest to counsel, track CPD hours completed and update Law Society account accordingly
- Prepare and distribute slide presentations for quarterly meetings and periodic training
Required Qualifications
Education
- Post-secondary education Certificate/Diploma in a Law Clerk/Paralegal program
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with a law firm or in-house counsel
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Able to handle and prioritize a high volume of matters simultaneously
- Able to efficiently communicate, write, edit, research, analyze, negotiate and problem solve
- Possess confidence, flexibility, diplomacy and good interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented and able to proofread for spelling, grammar and formatting irregularities in documents
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs – Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneDrive
- Proficient in use of Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Proficient in use of WorkShare Compare
