The Role:

FP Canada is searching for an Associate General Counsel to join its legal team in Toronto. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel will be responsible for a variety of legal matters, with an emphasis on contract drafting, review, and negotiation. Experience in employment law, intellectual property, and/or privacy law will be considered assets, as will bilingualism in English and French.

A true generalist role, the Associate General Counsel will work closely with senior management and support the organization’s various business teams. This is a newly created role, and an excellent opportunity to contribute and make an impact in an organization with an important public mission.

The AGC will have at least two years of post-call experience in contract drafting, review, and negotiation, gained either at a leading law firm or major corporation. The AGC will:

• Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of commercial matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating, non-disclosure agreements, and complex contracts and agreements;
• Support with employment law matters, including workplace policies and employment agreements;
• Support with intellectual property matters (copyright/trademark), including protection, licensing, enforcement, and management of IP assets;
• Provide guidance, develop policies, procedures, and training initiatives on privacy and data protection compliance, including privacy policies, data governance, PIPEDA, CASL requirements and risk mitigation.
• Partner with internal business units to identify legal risks and provide practical, business-oriented solutions;
• Support the General Counsel with other tasks as needed.
