Our client, Lawyers Without Borders Canada (“LWBC“), is a non-governmental international cooperation organization in whose mission is to support the realization of human rights for individuals in vulnerable situations by strengthening access to justice and legal representation. The primary beneficiaries of their efforts are women who are victims of gender-based violence, exploited children, marginalized indigenous communities, individuals discriminated against due to their sexual and gender identity and other victims of human rights violations. Founded 20 years ago and headquartered in Quebec City, LWBC now employs around 150 people and operates in 6 intervention countries: Mali, Haiti, Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will ensure the organization’s sound operational and administrative governance, development, strategic positioning and the fulfillment of LWBC’s mandate. Together with the management team, you will determine LWBC’s goals, strategy and direction, and ensure the organization’s efficient operations through collaborative management. You will manage reputational, financial and legal risks, and ensure organization’s adherence to pertinent codes of conduct and ethics. Representing LWBC before various entities and groups, to cultivating and maintaining trusting relationships with various partners, and acting as the organization’s primary spokesperson to both the public and media will also be among your responsibilities. Upholding the organization’s values, you will ensure compliance with policies, providing a safe and healthy work environment for all.

You must have at least ten years of relevant experience in law, international justice or human rights, and a minimum of five years of experience in a team management role. You must be bilingual in French and English and proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable. The role involves travel abroad approximately 4 to 6 times per year. Candidates from outside of the Quebec City area are encouraged to contact us to explore potential arrangements, given the need for regular presence at the organization’s head office in Quebec City.
