    • Do you know what it is like to act as a trusted advisor to executives and the C-Suite?
    • Do you enjoy dealing with a wide variety of legal matters, and have experience putting processes in place in order to make business more autonomous and efficient?
    • Do you have prior legal experience dealing with financial institutions or with other highly regulated industries?

Our client is the corporate and investment banking arm of a large European bank with a growing presence in Canada. The bank offers financing and investment banking products and services to Canadian Corporates and Financial Institutions, including trade finance, commercial banking and capital market solutions, either directly or through its extensive international network. Plans are underway to develop an operations and IT hub in Montreal to service the bank’s Americas operations.

To better serve the needs of its clients, the bank is establishing a legal function in Canada and, as a result, hiring its first Canadian Head of Legal.

Reporting to both the Senior Country Officer and the General Counsel Americas, you will be based out of the Montreal office and will be responsible for managing all Canadian legal matters, as well as in identifying and minimizing legal risks.

You will provide day-to-day advice to management and to the various business units on the bank’s daily activities and recommend the best course of action, whether to do with regulatory relationships, commercial transactions, vendor contracts, data privacy and cyber risk, litigation or employment matters. You will support the business in ensuring that the bank and its Canadian CIB affiliates meet regulatory obligations, and advise on Canadian bank regulations. You will act as corporate secretary for the bank’s CIB subsidiaries in Canada and represent the Legal Function in local management and governance committees, and will manage all external legal advice and law firm relationships.

Are you well-versed in general business law and have an interest in the financial services market? If you’re known for your versatility, resourcefulness, your practicality and business acumen, we would like to discuss this opportunity with you in confidence. You must have at least 10 years of relevant experience practicing in a sophisticated corporate environment, including experiencing managing complex projects, be a member of the Quebec Bar, and be bilingual to qualify. Knowledge of the financial market or experience within a highly regulated industry will be considered an asset, as will prior experience in establishing a new legal function. Ref. : #32770

This is a mandate entrusted exclusively to ZSA. Resumes sent to or contact made with our client or any of its affiliates will be forwarded to ZSA for review.
