Our client, a Mississauga based boutique commercial litigation law firm is looking to add an Estates Litigation Law Clerk to their team.
Job Description
- Assisting with the preparation, drafting and proofreading of court forms, correspondence, reporting letters, and legal documents including pleadings, affidavits, motions and briefs.
- Formatting all court documents in accordance with Superior Court of Justice practice directions, including compiling records, bookmarking, hyperlinking, etc.
- Serving, filing online and uploading documents to CaseLines.
- Corresponding with Court staff, and in particular, the Toronto Estates List, as needed to request and confirm scheduling appointments, case conferences, hearing dates, etc.
- Coordinating and scheduling meetings, conferences, cross-examinations, and mediations with counsel and parties.
- Managing the lawyer’s calendar, including diarizing and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Assisting with email review and processing, maintaining and organizing electronic and hard copy files, and ensuring all relevant documents are accurately filed and easily accessible.
- Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and financial institutions professionally and efficiently.
- Staying current on changes in court procedure and practice directions.
- Performing legal administrative tasks including overseeing file openings, preparing draft engagement letters, obtaining retainers, reviewing dockets, preparing accounts and billing.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and skills:
- Working knowledge of Justice Services Online, CaseLines, PDF editing programs, Zoom, Dropbox, PCLaw and Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure and provincial/regional practice directions.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational, multi tasking, and time management skills.
- Attention to detail with excellent proofreading skills.
- Ability to think critically and solve problems as they arise.
- Completion of accredited Law Clerk program or minimum 4 years’ experience working as a law clerk.
- Minimum 2 years experience working in estate litigation.
